Horizontal airflow is produced by a fan that blows air from the back of the cabinet towards the front. The air moves horizontally, perpendicular to the work surface. Horizontal airflow cabinets are often employed for operations requiring a higher level of protection, such as handling hazardous materials or biological samples.
Horizontal airflow cabinets are intended to offer a controlled environment in which pollutants are kept out of the work area. HEPA filters are used to remove particles and bacteria from the air. Additionally, the cabinets contain a positive pressure differential, which means that the air within the cabinet is constantly under pressure, preventing pollutants from entering from the outside.
